The Joondalup Autumn Classic Run-Swim-Run event will take place on on Monday 04 March 2024.
This great classic Run-Swim-Run event format is suitable for all age groups including novices. The 2024 Joondalup Autumn Classic is a State Championship event for various age groups as:
Junior State Aquathlon Championships

12 – 13 years: Junior Bolt Distance

14 – 15 years: Junior Bolt Distance

16 – 19 years: Long Course
Senior State Aquathlon Championship:

Open & Age Groups: Long Course
The event will also form part of the WA State Series for both Juniors and Senior athletes and the long course option for seniors is a Age Group ITU World Championship Qualifying race. over the standard distance of 2.5km Run - 1km Swim - 2.5km Run.

In the multisports industry the Run-Swim-Run format is often referred to as an Aquathlon which can vary in sequence and distance.

This event will continue to feature the Schools Aquathlon Championships where students will battle it out to become the overall champions!!!

There will also be a trophy up for grabs as part of the Clubs Aquathlon Championship Challenge where Triathlon and Surf Life Saving Clubs will fight it out to be crowned the overall JA Classic Aquathlon champions.

Course Format​
Run-Swim-Run races the format will be:

Run - 1 x lap

Swim - 1 x lap (2x lap for Long Course. Note - Competitors will need to exit the water, cross a lap timing mat and re-enter on each lap.)

Course Terrain
Note: - The run legs are both along Mullaloo Beach and swim is in the beautiful ocean. As the event is all on the beach you will have the option to run bare foot or in shoes. Competitors will be able to navigate the run on soft or firmer hard sections of the beach as desired. A designated transition area is provided on the run-out lap to dispose of or put on your shoes between the Run and Swim legs..
Swim Challenge Format

The Swim Challenge will be a 3 x 500m lap.. Competitors will need to exit the water, cross a lap timing mat and re-enter on each lap.

Registration Pickup
Registration pickup/bag collection (timing chip, swim cap) will be available at the following dates and times:​

Saturday 02nd March 2024 - From 11 :00am: to 3:00pm at XTR Multisports (Royce Court, Joondalup). If you select this option you will need to ensure that both your arms marked with your race number on race morning.

Monday 04th March 2024 - From 6:30am to 8:00am on race day at the Start/Finish area Mullaloo Beach (on the beach opposite the Surf Club)
Race Number Marking - Please ensure you have registered and collected your swim cap, timing chip band within the times indicated above. Also ensure that both your arms marked with your race number on race morning. This will be available during registration on race morning.

Bag Drop
A bag drop area is available on race day and will be located in the recovery area at the finish. Please note that is not controlled so competitors leave their bag at their own risk.
Race Briefing
Race briefings will be held 10 minutes prior to each wave start near transition and the starting area on Mullaloo Beach.

Athletes will have a choice of entering the standard Open (Elite) Age Group and Parariathlete waves. Initial wave divisions and and start times are listed below and subject to change based on entry numbers.

Presentations
All presentations will take place at approximately 09:30 (Bolt, Long and Swim) onwards at the finish area. Tin Lids (Kids) do not have a additional place medals or a designated presentation as they will receive their finishers award when they cross the finish line. The presentations times are subject to change and will start earlier if ahead of schedule.

Senior State Series (For the Long distance)
The 2023/24 State Series Competition will allow for members to accumulate points towards the Triathlete of the Year Award (TOTY) across nine (9) races, based in both metro and regional WA. Points will be allocated across the 5 year age group from 20-24 up to 70+ to the top ten (10) members in each category. You must be a member at the time of competing and your best seven (7) results will count towards your tally for TOTY WA STATE SERIES RACE AND POINTS.

Junior State Series (For the Bolt distance)
The 2023/24 Junior State Series Competition will allow for members to accumulate points towards the Triathlete of the Year Award (TOTY) across five (5) races, based in both metro and regional WA. Points will be allocated across the top ten (10) members in each category 12-13 years, 14-15 years, 16-19 years. You must be a member at the time of competing and your best four (4) results will count towards your tally for TOTY.

**Open/Elite -WA State Sprint Championship (Long) - 1st (Medal & $500), 2nd (Medal & $400), 3rd (Medal & $300) male and female - for Open Category places (Note - must be a current financial TA/TWA annual member).

**Age Group - WA State Sprint Championship (Long) - 1st, 2nd and 3rd male, female and 1st Paratri male, female WA State Championship Age Group place medals - As per the Long course Age Group race categories above. (Note - To qualify for a WA State Championship Age Group place medal you must be a current financial TA and TWA Standard or Premium annual member). Basic TA/TWA members or Interstate TA members do not qualify for WA State Championship awards.

Schools Aquathlon Champions 2024 (Bolt)
Schools will be able to claim glory as the Schools Aquathlon Champions 2024 under the following categories:

Fastest School Trophy - based on top 5 performances for Junior 12 - 15 years/Bolt course

Most represented school Trophy (Bolt)
Club Challenge Champions

Club Challenge Champions 2024 - will be awarded to the fastest club based on top ten performances in the long course.

For the WA State Sprint Championship (Long) race, while the event is open for all to. enter only current 2023/2024 Triathlon Australia and Triathlon WA affiliated Standard or Premium annual members will be valid for WA State Championship placing status/awards including cash prizes (Age Groups 20yrs+) as well as points contribution to selection for Triathlon Australia representation at any Age Group WT World Championship event.

For this event WA State Championship placing medals will be awarded as apposed to regular Age Group medals.

All finishers will receive a JA CLassic finisher medal.

Non-affiliated entries and TA/TWA Basic members are required to obtain a Triathlon Australia one day membership for race day that provides a Triathlon Australia One Day Licence (ODL) providing you with Public Liability insurance during the event. The purchase of a a Triathlon Australia one day membership and ODL is not a substitute for a Triathlon Australia and Triathlon WA annual membership and the associated entitlements, including validity for WA State Championship placing status/awards or selection for Triathlon Australia representation at any Age Group ITU World Championship event.

Note: All lucky draw prizes on the day are only valid if your race number is drawn and you are personally present to receive the award at the prize giving on race day. Lucky draw prizes for entrants not present at the race day prize giving will be invalid and their will be a re-draw for that prize.

Parking
Parking will be available next to Tom Simpsons park at Mullaloo beach and also along the main beachside road Oceanside Promenade. As it is a popular location it is recommended to arrive early to ensure a spot and allow plenty of time for registration. Please be aware that all parking regulations enforced by the Council will apply throughout the course of the event so please refer to their parking signs for more details.
Participants and supporters should take note of restrictions in regard to access to the beach via designated walkways and not enter dunes areas – please refer to and take note of the appropriate access signs.
